In parallel with the emergence of the transnational movement of people with disabilities and the evolution of public policies affecting them, particularly since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2006, research on the articulation of these phenomena has exploded, including in the French-speaking world. The Franco-Latin American colloquia on disability research, the last of which was held online in 2021, provide a broad forum for scientific exchange within a part of this community.

The primary objective of this colloquium at the University of Ottawa was to bring more researchers from Canada, Haiti and Morocco working on the associative movements of people with disabilities, including those of women with disabilities, and/or on relevant public policy forums at local, national and international levels. The second objective was to bring together researchers from three generations and different disciplinary backgrounds: doctoral students, teacher-researchers and emeritus professors, anthropologists, jurists, sociologists and others. The aim was to facilitate the sharing of interdisciplinary, international and intergenerational knowledge.

The colloquium took place over three mornings on July 9, 10, and 11, 2024, in person at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS, 120 Université Privée) at the University of Ottawa, and online via Zoom.

Please note this colloquium was held mostly in French.
