At the Landon Pearson Centre’s 20th Anniversary at Carleton University on June 1, 2026, an exhibition titled “Reimagining from the South: Girls and Women with Disabilities Advocating for Change” was presented by the Decolonial Disability Studies Collective (DDSC). The DDSC team includes Xuan Thuy Nguyen and Hoa Bui from EDID-GHDI’s Vietnam Country team. The June 1 exhibition showcased the work of women and girls with disabilities involved in the Engaging girls and young women with disabilities across Southern spaces (ENGAGE) Project. This work centres girls and women with disabilities from the Global South and their knowledge, lived experience, aspirations, and advocacy for more just and inclusive societies. The ENGAGE Project is a collective network of women and girls with disabilities from Vietnam, India, and South Africa and is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) through a Partnership Grant. The ENGAGE Project hosted two knowledge mobilization activities earlier in 2026 to promote conversations around disability, gender, leadership, and activism.
