The EDID-GHDI partnership is excited to announce the release of its second working paper, authored by Fabian Garcia under the supervision of Dominique Masson.
EDID-GHDI has engaged with three transnational research projects related to gender, intersectionality, and disability-inclusive global development. Fabian’s working paper documents the results of interviews as part of Dominique Masson and Clothilde Parent-Chartier’s research to examine the unequal access to international treaty body meetings. Although international gatherings should provide an opportunity for women, girls, and gender-diverse people with disabilities to meet others and share their experiences, these gatherings pose important obstacles to their fair representation.
In the first working paper, Representing women and girls with disabilities at the COSP and UN-CSW, 2021 and 2022: WHO REPRESENTS? (in English only), members of the transnational team share the results of examining the representation of diverse women and girls with disabilities at two international meetings: the Conference of States Parties (CoSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UN-CSW). This second working paper, Representing women and girls with disabilities at the COSP and UN-CSW, 2021 and 2022: ANALYSIS OF INTERVIEWS, presents the results of interviews conducted with “frequent speakers” and “frequent organizers” of side events and parallel events centring women with disabilities and their issues at the annual COSP and CSW meetings in 2021 and 2022. This report explores their motivations for speaking at or organizing these events;and their perceptions of advances, challenges, and changes needed, as well as of the disability and women’s movements’ responses to their efforts. It also includes their views on the transformations required to further the representation of the diversity of women with disabilities at the international level.
