From June 9-12, 2026, the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development (CASID) 2026 Conference will take place at the Glendon Campus of York University in Toronto. Xuan Thuy Nguyen, EDID-GHDI’s team lead for Vietnam, organized a panel titled “Co-Creating Knowledge with and from the Global South: Young Researchers Reflect on Research Praxis.” Although there is growing research on disability and global development, young disabled researchers in the Global South have been excluded from this conversation. This panel addresses the gap by foregrounding the perspective of young researchers engaging in critical disability research in the Global South. The panel will include the following presentations:
- “Research engagements with women and girls with disabilities in Vietnam” presented by Hoa Bui
- “A young disabled researcher’s perspective on knowledge co-creation” presented by Phuong Ma
- “Autistic experiences in research production in the Global South” presented by Thanh Thuy Tu
- “Challenges and possibilities for decolonial disability praxis” presented by Emma Schlitt
- “Epistemic struggles in Global South knowledge production” presented by Phuong Tran
This specific panel will take place Friday, June 12, 2026, at 10:30-11:45am (EST) in Room A302 or virtually. To read more about the panel and the individual presentation, please visit the conference program. To register for the conference, please see the conference registration page.
