Members of the EDID-GHDI partnership presented at the Canadian Political Science Association conference in a three-part panel on June 12th on the topic of “Political Representation, Inclusion and Participation in Local, National and Transnational Activities: Learning from Women with Disabilities.” The panel was chaired by Karen Soldatić of Toronto Metropolitan University with Discussants Kirsten Van Houten, post-doctoral scholar with EDID-GHDI, and Naefa Kahn from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.

The panel presentations included

  • “Using a Feminist Intersectional Livelihoods Analysis to understand experiences of historically marginalized women and girls with disabilities in Canada” by Deborah Stienstra and Kathryn Reinders;
  • “Representing Women and Girls with Disabilities in United Nations Arenas” by Dominique Masson and Clothilde Parent-Chartier; and
  • “From Global Norms to Local Action: Implementing the Intersectoral Global Action Plan (IGAP) in South Africa” by Jacqueline De Matos Ala, Sharlene Cassel, and David Black.
