The Haiti team of the EDID-GHDI partnership held an online workshop on February 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on the working paper “Organizations of Women with Disabilities, Their Partners, and Their Response to the Crisis in Haiti.” The workshop was based on a draft report of their study, co-authored by Stephen Baranyi (University of Ottawa), Soinette Désir (Réseau des associations de femmes handicapées d’Haïti (RAFHAH)), Jo-Ann Garnier (enpaK Haiti and Grants Consultant for the Disability Rights Fund), and Ilionor Louis (Égalité pour la connaissance, la communication et la liberté (ECCEL)).

The workshop included welcome remarks by Marjorie Brutus, partnership coordinator for the EDID-GHDI Haiti team; introduction to the study by Stephen; presentation of the section on organisations des femmes handicapées (OFH) and Bureau du secrétaire d’État à l’intégration des personnes handicapées (BSEIPH) by Soinette; discussion moderated by Samantha Junie Pierre (Union des femmes à mobilité réduite d’Haïti (UFMORH)); presentation of the section on the Disability Rights Fund (DRF) by Jo-Ann; presentation of the section on the EDID-GHDI partnership by Ilionor; presentation of the conclusions by Soinette and Stephen; discussion moderated by Dominique Masson (University of Ottawa); and closing remarks, acknowledgments, and adjournment by Marjorie.

The English version of the study will be published in EDID-GHDI’s upcoming Palgrave Macmillan edited chapter collection, Approaches to Making Change with Women and Girls with Disabilities(2026). A revised French version will be presented at the Congrès international des recherches féministes francophones (CIRFF) in August 2026, and submitted to a scholarly journal for publication afterwards.
