As part of International Development Week, Humanity & Inclusion (HI) Canada, in collaboration with the Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI), organized a webinar entitled “Women and Girls with Disabilities: Official Development Assistance at the Crossroads of Disability and Gender” on Thursday, February 8, from 11am to 12pm (UTC-5).

As mentioned in the Briefing Paper of the same name co-edited by DAWN-RAFH Canada, HI Canada, and EDID-GHDI, women and girls with disabilities are rarely taken into account or specifically targeted by humanitarian and development aid investments. They also receive too little recognition from the women’s rights movement: witness the absence of any explicit reference to women and girls with disabilities in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

In this webinar, guest panelists explored various aspects of these issues. It was moderated by Michèle Asselin, Executive Director of AQOCI.

The panelists were:

– Nicole Nyangolo Ndamuso, regional coordinator of Concertation des Collectifs des Associations Féminines de la Région des Grands-Lacs for the “Girls’ Education for a Better Future in the Great Lakes Region” program implemented with the consortium Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie and CECI.

– Nancy Saint-Louis, researcher for the Live Work Well Research Centre’s “Engendering Disability-Inclusive Development” project and doctoral candidate

– Dieynaba Diallo, Vice-President of Femmes Droit et Développement en Afrique (FeDDAF) Senegal and Coordinator of the FeDDAF Regional Coalition, an organization involved in the Making it Work initiative implemented by Humanity & Inclusion.

Anne Delorme, Executive Director of HI Canada, concluded with recommendations from the Briefing Note.
